Yesterday was a SIX Green Arrow Day.

Should Schools Open?

Good Morning,

Yesterday was a SIX Green Arrow Day. Below are the particulars for the day.

We can say; it depends. This question is certainly at the top of decision-makers’ minds as the new school year begins. We recommend using our “Open Net Cases (ONC)” calculation to aid in decision-making. There are two graphs below (Ohio and Cuyahoga County (Cleveland)) to illustrate our view.

As a reminder, ONC’s have not yet recovered or passed; in other words, those actively carrying the virus. These are the patients that can spread COVID 19. In Ohio, there are about 1,500 (0.013% of the population) that are potential spreaders. In all likelihood, those cases are not equally distributed throughout the state. The Ohio Department of Health’s website shows the data by county. Most other states have similar graphs, statistics, and analytical data.

In Cuyahoga County, there are less than 70 (0.005% of the population) ONC’s, and better yet, our healthcare officials know who these patients are. There might be some county in Ohio where the schools might consider not opening, but by knowing the virus carriers in Cuyahoga and how few there are, the schools would be safe to open.

Cuyahoga County Open Net Cases:

Cuyahoga County with a population of 1.25 million may have as less than 70 or 0.005% virus carriers.

Ohio Open Net Cases:

Ohio with a population of 11.7 million may have as little as 1,500 virus carriers or 0.013%.
