April 16, 2020

Good Morning:

Yesterday Wednesday April 15, 2020 was a TWO green arrow day. We had the most deaths and recoveries during the reporting period.

This morning we are touching on, perhaps the most touching aspect of COVID 19…deaths. On the spreadsheet it is a number, but to each of us it might represent a loved family member or friend, and it is heartfelt.

We bring up this because of the number yesterday and that, according to ABC news, NYC added 3,778 deaths to their toll because there was a “probability” that COVID 19 contributed to otherwise classified causes of death.

The term probability was used most likely because there were underlying conditions and complications and the virus contributed to that person’s situation. For example, an 85 year old patient, that was diabetic, with heart disease and other maladies did not have the physical wherewithal to handle a COVID 19 infection. Perhaps it might be helpful to know what percentage of deaths fall into such a classification.

To put this into context, the below chart estimates the number of cancer deaths in the USA. We will average about 52,000 deaths per month, almost double the number of COVID 19 in 3.5 months. This is not meant to mitigate the meaning of anyone’s life but to give context to the numbers.

We live in a country that has a lot of people, about 330,000,000. Just a small percentage of that number is big as in the case of cancer in which is over 600,000 annually.

Readers have cautioned us about talking specifically about this topic, but in the spirit of reporting information…it is important to know.

One a positive note, look at the spike of recoveries almost 10,000 yesterday. The reported recoveries of 48.701 + the “unaccounted recoveries (UR)” (two-week old cases – deaths – those in critical care = UR) are 175,525 recovered people.

Enjoy your day!
