April 5, 2020

Good Morning:

Yesterday Saturday April 4, 2020 was a five green arrow day (out of a possible 6) since we added a 6th category; number of tests performed.

The single red arrow was the increase of confirmed cases. The increase however continued the trend of a smaller increase than the day before, and the day before that, etc. There were about 1,900 more new cases yesterday less than the day before, which was less than the days prior.

In regard to the tests, yesterday in the US there were more than 900,000 performed with 3.7% testing positive. We know that number (3.7%) tends to be skewed on the high side because not everyone who may have the systems gets tested. Many are told to stay at home and self-quarantine, unless the systems get worse.

The recovery rate continues to outpace the new case rate and one can expect that significant jumps in the raw recover numbers next week as many of the active cases reach their two-week period.

Again, the key number to watch is the new case rate, down to 12.3% less than half the rate nine days ago. The compounding effect of the infection rate cause a huge number of new cases, likewise a “de-compounding” effect is what can radically shift the growth curve to more favorable outcomes.

Thank you for sharing this with your fellow family, friends and colleagues. We have medical, actuarial, political, legal, accounting and many more professionals part of this email string.

Enjoy your Sunday…things look brighter and better today, than they did this time last week.

UPDATE:

Good morning:

Today is only a FOUR green arrow day (out of a possible 6).

An astute reader pointed out that the deaths recorded yesterday didn’t match his data. He was right. The chart was wrong.

The Worldometer website concludes its day based on GMT time or +4 EST. There are times when the US records deaths based on our time zones which show up as a prior day change in the numbers from when the chart was prepared.

The data is now corrected and as a quality assurance measure the data will be checked just prior to sending it out each morning.

Certainly, an Oops on my part.

Enjoy your day.
