Yesterday was a TEN Green Arrow Day.

Weekly Summary for Week Ended August 9, 2020
New Cases and Virus Carriers (Florida)

Good Morning,

Yesterday was a TEN Green Arrow Day. Below are the particulars for the day.

This past week we’ve been asked is the rate of new cases improving or not. The short answer is yes, but there are multiple dimensions to this question. First, the number of tests has increased from 1.7 (in May) to 6.0 million per week. Several readers have commented that if we tested as many as we do now, there might have been multiple times as many cases as was historically reported. Maybe they are right.

Second, there is more routine testing, such as in the case of athletes, healthcare workers, and other professions than before. Many of these may test positive but be asymptomatic. They most likely would not have had a test other than for their specific professional requirements.

Back to the simple answer, the chart below shows the new cases in the United States over the last four-week endings, and yes, there are fewer new cases even with the jump in testing.

We also would like to remind policymakers that while the number of cases is significant statistic, we believe the more salient one is the active virus carriers. We use the term “Open Net Cases (ONC),” which are those people capable of spreading COVID 19. Below is a table showing the accumulated cases in Florida and what we believe are the ONC’s. As of this newsletter, there are less than 50,000 such cases or 0.224% of Florida’s population.

New Cases

New cases have dropped over the last four weeks. That is a 20.4% reduction since the week ending July 19, 2020.
