Yesterday was a THREE Green Arrow Day.
Weekly Summary for Week Ended July 19, 2020
Tests, Tests, and More Tests
Good Morning,
Yesterday was a THREE Green Arrow Day. Below are the particulars for the day.
The test rate is continuing to escalate as seen in the below chart. There were 73% more test performed last week compared to the last week of May.
We see the accelerated rate impact the statistics in several ways. First more tests will yield more new cases. The availability of testing facilities and the significantly greater capacity has made this possible. Those new cases and the related rate are probably more of a function of testing than actual cases because in the early days tests were rationed. Many COVID cases in previous months went either undetected because patients were asymptomatic or were told to self-quarantine and thus not included in the statistics.
What we do see are an appreciable drop in fatalities. There are 64% fewer fatalities in the 30-day period ending July 17, 2020 than in April. The combination of the more tests and fewer deaths has had the rate plummet from 6.2% to 1.3%. Part of the fall in this rate is attributable to more tests, but most from the real drop in the number.
Test Rates
Tests performed have increased to a 5 million/week level. The increase in capacity and capability is helping drive this statistic.
Death Rates
Both the number of fatalities and the rate has dropped. Last week’s rate of 1.1% shows this trend of fewer fatalities continuing.
