Sunday was a SIX Green Arrow Day.
Tests Spike / Case Rate Drops
Next Newsletter Scheduled for October 12, 2020
Good Morning,
Yesterday was a SIX Green Arrow Day; below are the particulars.
The number of tests performed in the United States has increased from less than 5 million per week just a few weeks ago to more than 7 million. We don’t have any data that would explain such an increase but can surmise a more concerted effort to test anyone who might have symptoms and for compliance and precautionary reasons.
We can almost anticipate several astute readers immediately commenting that the more tests performed, there would be a corresponding increase in new confirmed cases. It turns out they would be wrong. Both the number of patients and the rate of infections have dropped since July. Since July, the current case rate has fallen by more than 40% and the number of infections by 34%. What this probably means is that historical numbers were most likely understated relative to today’s testing standards. Perhaps asked differently, had we had as many tests available and performed in the early months, would the statistics or trends be different?
New Cases
New cases have dropped over the last couple of months from July’s rate of 8.1% to September’s rate of 4.7%
Tests
The number of tests performed last week jumped by more than 2 million compared to three weeks ago.
The rate of testing appears to be accelerating which probably will lead to more cases being reported.
