Yesterday was a SEVEN Green Arrow Day.
What’s the Rate?
Good Morning,
There are 1.6 million reported cases in the US, with 48,675 in Florida and 30,167 in Ohio. Those are the accumulated numbers, and on a percentage basis, it would be 0.49%, 0.23%, and 0.26%, respectively.
However, perhaps the relevant rates are for those that have COVID 19, thus eliminated all of the resolved cases (recovered and passed). When we net cases to those still in need of care, “Open Net Cases,” those fall to 346,181 (US), 9,847 (Florida), and 6,159 (Ohio). Converting those to a percentage we calculated 0.105%, 0.046% and 0.053%, respectively. The attached spreadsheet, tab “ONC,” shows these calculations.
Why are these a more relevant statistic, because those are the germ carriers and potential spreaders of the virus. One reader wondered what we could do to separate and quarantine those still in need of care, how quickly would COVID 19 be isolated, and thus eliminated. That, of course, is a question we don’t have an answer for, but it was worth asking.

On Wednesday, there were an exceptional number of tests recorded, over 1.4 million. There have been times in the past in which this statistic was adjusted retroactively, so we did not dwell or provide analysis on it. We aren’t sure why this number periodically gets inflated, but it does. And yes, that 1.4 million was adjusted down to 323,101.
