Fatality Rate Continues Favorable Trend
Good Morning,
Yesterday was a SIX Green Arrow Day. Below are the particulars for the day.
The fatality rate attributable to COVID 19 dropped from its high of 6.2% in April to its new monthly low of 1.3%, almost an 80% reduction. Overall, the fatality rate has dipped to 2.6%.
Much of the credit goes out to our healthcare system and providers as they have learned how to treat better and care for patients. The chances of survival for even the more severe cases have improved considerably.
We can almost anticipate one of our astute readers mentioning that, yes, the rate has fallen, but what about the actual number of fatalities? We will answer that (see graph below). The number of deaths so far in October is 19,138, and if we prorate for the rest of the month, it is projected to be 22,966. Compared to April’s deaths of 55,687, there is almost a 60% plunge in the absolute number. In other words, more cases and fewer fatalities.

The graph covers the period from April, 2020, through October 25, 2020.
Both the rate and number of fatalities have declined since the height of the pandemic.
