Six Consecutive Weeks with Generally Favorable Trends
Yesterday was a NINE Green Arrow Day
Good Morning,
The trends are favorable; new cases, fatalities, and recoveries have been flat over six weeks. That means, at least so far, there is not a significant acceleration of new cases. Many assume that the cumulation of natural immunity and immunity through vaccinations has had their desired effect.
There are several intriguing points. First, only 4.7 million tests were performed last week compared to 18.2 million in January. Weekly deaths have plummeted down to 1,808 from 10,848 in January, and those requiring intensive care have fallen to less than 1,500, a complete contrast to the earlier periods of more than ten times that many.
The one area to watch is the NY, NJ & CT corridor which showed a 47% increase in new cases versus the prior week of 42,090. This, in part, is due to the Open Net Cases (ONC) increasing by 13% to 253,868 from last week’s total of 202,184.
The “New Case” graph (below) shows the continual drop in new cases. We are back to this past summer levels when Covid 19 and Covid Delta cases were believed to be all but gone. In the United States, 215 million, or 64%, have completed their respective vaccination regimen. That number, combined with those that have achieved natural immunity, probably has our country at a better than 80% Herd Immunity Factor.
