Yesterday was an EIGHT Green Arrow Day.

Fatality Rate Continues to Fall

Good Morning,

Yesterday was an EIGHT Green Arrow Day. Below are the particulars for the day.

We reached a high of more than 14,000 deaths per week in April. The corresponding weekly number dropped below 7,000 in August, 6,000 in September, and for the latest week, it is averaging less than 5,000. The below graph shows the “first wave” trend and then the “second wave.”

The primary credit for this favorable trend should go to the medical teams that worked together to minimize the impact of COVID 19. Said differently, our collective healthcare system now knows how to treat better and care for patients. This improvement shows up in intensive care bed utilization, which was over 19,000/day in the Spring and now averages about 14,500/day.

The initial general strategy was to contain the virus the best we could. The expectation is that it would give our health care system time to be better prepared and knowledgeable. That was a smart strategy.
